A RARE 8mm CRANK-WOUND AMERICAN 'PRIMARY NEW YORK TYPE' GALLERY AIR-RIFLE, POSSIBLY BY D. & J. LURCH, no visible serial number,
circa 1861, with octagonal smoothbore 23 1/4in. iron barrel rotating sideways to load, rubbed illegible signature ending in 'N.Y.' to top-flat, dove-tailed blade fore-sight, short ladder rear-sight, raised engraved band to front of the air-chamber, the air-chamber also engraved with a panel of scrolls (rubbed), brass trigger unit with detachable crank handle to right hand side fitted with a turned wood grip-piece, walnut butt-stock of Kentucky rifle style with brass furniture including Swiss-style heel-plate and trigger guard bow with raised lower tang and moulded walnut splinter fore-end with nickel tip, the whole refinished
